Kosovo, efforts for ratifying the border demarcation with Montenegro

The Parliament of Kosovo has not established a day for the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro, after the Sunday’s agreement was postponed.

The postponement was made because the law requires two-thirds of 120 votes. The Self-Determination Movement announced that they will not vote the agreement, while the Serbian List has not made its stance clear yet.

The Kosovo government has voted the document that will be attached to the initial agreement. Prime Minister Haradinaj said this Monday that they are working for the agreement to be voted in Parliament.

“We have lost three years. One more week is no problem. But we must be very careful with the session because there is no turning back. We are on the right track and the process could take one day”, Haradinaj said.

He appealed MPs to support the agreement. Signed in 2015, it was ratified by the Montenegro Parliament.

Kosovo politicians have been divided about the agreement, which, according to the opposition, gives away 8000 hectares to Montenegro.

The ratification with Montenegro comes as a condition from the EU before the visa liberalization with Schengen countries.
