The head of the Independent Syndication Union appealed the mineworkers
to interrupt the hunger strike as soon as possible and start talking
with the ACR Company representatives in order to realize their demands. Gezim
Kalaja declared that he supports the miners’ requests, but they should
end the hunger strike.
“We take all the responsibilities, the right and reasonable requests that could be realized for sitting on the dialogue table, in order to sign the agreement and start working. It doesn’t matter who will sign. What is important is that this should be made by those who represent the miners, in order to take what they have demanded and start securing the food of their families”, Kalaja declared, considering this strike as useless and that serves only to the cynical interests of the strike leaders.
The protest has been prolonged to tow months, and according to Kalaja it damages the miners and the mine itself. Kalaja emphasized that the miners are being used by the leaders of the strike and are not supported by the mineworkers of other mines in Albania.
The mineworkers declared that they will not interrupt their strike until their requests will be met.
