Joshua Marston: I feel Albanian

After receiving the news that his film “The Forgiveness of Blood” was
admitted for the “Oscar” race, the US director, Joshua Marston wrote a
few lines about his work in Albania for the realization of the movie.

“After working and living for three years in Albania for the realization of this movie, I learned Albanian, worked together with the people of this country and learned to feel Albanian. We were trying to realize this movie and to create something real. I had to understand all details, not only the ‘Kanun’ and blood feuds, but for the life, hopes and delusions of the Albanian teenagers, such as going to university. I have made hundreds of conversations, during which I have posed thousands of questions and drank a lot of raki. (I think that the only thing that delays my passport is that I should have quit smoking). I felt very proud after I hearing people coming out from the theaters saying that the movie seemed made by an Albanian. The truth is that the movie was realized by hundreds of Albanians, and I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to work with them”, declared the director Marston.
