The College of Criminal Justice at the Supreme Court judged as valid the decision taken by Court of Appeal to release from prison Gazmend Ahmetaj, the National
Guard officer accused of killing an opposition protester on
January 21st demonstration.

The General Prosecution requested imprisonment for the accused, but Court considered that this request was not based on law and proofs.

During the session, the College asked prosecutor Artur Selmani to support his request with other proofs against Ahmetaj, and if the ballistic expertise was finished, but the prosecutor answered that he was not aware of it.

The prosecutor insisted that the Court of Appeal did not leave enough time to the Prosecution for collecting the proofs against the accused Gazmend Ahmetaj, Mark Nikolli and Sadik Çela, all three of them left free while investigated.

Four months have passed since four opposition protesters were killed on the boulevard, and the prosecution has been able to secure proofs for only one of them. Ballistic expertise has enabled the prosecution to accuse the National Guard officer Agim Llupo for the murder of Ziver Veizi. Llupo is the only one being held in custody.

Meanwhile, no one has been accused for Hekuran Deda, because no bullet was found inside his body. The body of Aleks Nika, who died in a Turkish hospital, arrived in Albania after several weeks. The 9 mm bullet found in his head has not been analyzed yet.

And for the last victim, Faik Myrto, the prosecution declared that the bullet that killed him doesn’t correspond with the 51 guns seized at the National Guard. There has been no official announcement for the results of the scientific laboratory on the other guns seized from the National Guard.
