The critics of the Socialist MP Kastriot Islami against the leadership
of the party he adheres seem to be very old, although they have been
intensified only in the last two years.

This is the truth that reveals the cable of 6 June 2009, which describes a conversation of Mr. Islami with a US Embassy employee.

One of the most strategic people of the Socialist Party, Islami told on May 30th that he and other SP figures spent 90% of their time focusing on the identity cards issue, the examination of the voters’ list and the selection of the commission members.

Islami admits that these actions left few time for the electoral campaign. He and other main Socialist figures declared that they were slow in opening the electoral offices, due to the lack of funds, compared to DP that had bigger finances.

Other persons outside the Socialist Party told the US Embassy employee that SP is lacking of a positive agenda, and that it was prone to manage an electoral campaign based on the accusations against the Prime Minister Sali Berisha.

The cable concludes with this note:

“More specifically, the Socialist Party has a detailed platform, based on education”.
