Interior Minister meets Dutch Ambassador, discuss border security

The Minister of Interior, Fatmir Xhafaj, received this Friday the
Ambassador of Netherlands to Albania, Dewi van de Weerd, who was
accompanied by the Contact Officer at the diplomatic mission.
Xhafaj updated the ambassador with the priorities of the Interior Ministry in this ruling term, including the vetting of police officers, fight against drug, organized crime and prevention of asylum seekers.
The Minister also updated the diplomat with a series of measures for reinforcing border control. “We will reinforce the human capacity and the professional level in border checkpoints”, Xhafaj said.
The Ambassador valued the work and the good relations between both police agencies. She said she was ready to support the new priorities of the Interior Ministry, through technical assistance and logistics.
Mrs.Van de Weerd said she was convinced both countries would deepen cooperation in the fight against criminal phenomena, by intensifying information exchange. She also said they were certain that the State Police vetting would increase citizens’ trust.
