INSTAT: Vegetable price reduced

Summer’s approach and an appropriate climate for some agriculture
products have given an advantage to consumers, who are now buying
some types of food with cheaper prices.

INSTAT, the Albanian Institute of Statistics reported yesterday new price levels for April, much lower than the previous trimester.

The Index of Prices for Products of Consume in April 2011 was 112% higher than in April 2007, signing a decrease of 0.6% compared to previous months. The annual difference in April is 4.1%. One year before, this difference was 3.7%.

The inflation level has decreased from 4.5% in March and 4.5% in February, the most critic level of all that even obliged the Albanian Bank to increase the norm of interest with 0.25%. More concretely, the index of the category “Food and non-alcoholic drinks” decreased with 1.5%, the biggest decrease of which was for the vegetables, including potatoes, with 12.6%.

INSTAT mentioned the price decrease of cucumber with 49.5%, spinach with 22.9%, tomatoes with 19%, eggplant with 18.6% and pepper with 11.8%.

The situation with fruits appeared to be different, achieving an increase of 4%, especially lemons with 8.8%, oranges with 7.6%, apples with 6.5% and kiwi with 1.2%.

The winter seasonal fruits are experiencing a price increase, and summer seasonal fruits have started to appear in the market, like cherries, grape and prunes.
