The petition demanding the amendment of Registry Office law and that opposes population registration on ethnic and religious basis, has also been signed by citizens in the city of Fier.

Hundreds of persons responded to the “Red and Black Alliance” appeal.
Other societies who joined the “Red and Black Alliance” held a press conference at the “Bylis” theatre.

“National Identity and peaceful coexistence are facing serious risks because of population registration on ethnic and religious basis. For these reasons I urge the Red and Black Alliance, now supported by many intellectuals, citizens and students from all over Albania , to raise a single slogan and principle: ‘Albania above all’.” declared Kreshnik Spahiu, chief of the High Council of Justice.

Historian Pëllumb Xhufi was also present in this press conference, treating the national minorities’ problem.

“The strangest fact is that Greece, a country that before WW2 recognized all minorities, today doesn’t recognize them at all. Greece has been criticized every year by the European Council for refusing to sign the European Council Convent for National Minorities. Greece is one of the rarest countries that still use Byzantine and Ottoman concepts by not recognizing national minorities. They say “All Christians are Greek”. For them, this counts not only in Greek territory, but even outside, like in Albania.” Xhufi said.

The “Red and Black Alliance” is expected to present this demand to the Albanian Parliament with 20.000 citizen signatures.
