During this week, hospital services have noticed an increased number of gastric flu patients.

The director of the Regional Health Authority, Liljana Ramasaco explained that the consumption of food that has been preserved in bad conditions is the main cause of food poisoning in the Albanian capital.

But food is not the only cause to gastric flu. Data suggest that a small part of these patients had been experiencing diarrhea and vomiting due to unclean sea waters.

The most endangered patients are those of 0-14 years of age.

The Albanian hospitals host 20 to 30 people each week with gastric flu, while the Tirana University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa” alone faces 80 patients per week.
