Hundreds of citizens and personalities have attended several ceremonies that were held today for the 14th anniversary of the death of Ibrahim Rugova, Kosovo’s historic president.
The ceremony started at his grave, in Velani, and continued with visits at the Rugova family.
The Democratic League of Kosovo also held a commemoration ceremony.
The former President of Kosovo, Fatmir Sejdiu, gave Rugova the “Hero of Kosovo” on the first anniversary of his death.
This is the highest title that the country awards to historic figures of Albania and Kosovo.
Rugova was elected leader of the Kosovo Democratic League on December 23rd, 1989, the first political party in Kosovo that has directly challenged the communist regime in former Yugoslavia.
