On the 24th anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre, two high-level EU officials, the Foreign Representative Federica Mogherini, and  Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn, reminded that it is a joint obligation to remind this as one of the darkest moments of humanity in the modern history of Europe.

“The efforts to rewrite history in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in other countries, are unacceptable”, they say in a joint declaration.

The European representatives underlined the need to bring impunity to an end, and overcome the heritage of the past.

On July 11th, 1995, the Serbian-Bosnian forced entered in Srebrenica, an area that was declared as safe by the UN.

In the following days they executed 8000 Muslims, and buried their bodies in the nearby forests.

The process for finding their remains is still undergoing.
