The Greek Foreign Minister, Nikos Kotzias, received in Athens the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn.

Both politicians discussed the key role of Greece in the EU enlargement matters, especially for Albania and Macedonia.

As for Albania, the Greek Chief Diplomat referred to the recent three-day meeting in Crete with his Albanian Counterpart, Ditmir Bushati. He said that the discussions will continue in Korca, on January 20th.

Kotzias underlined that there is hope that the suspended matters will be resolved, since both countries are interested to not let those issues become eternal or an obstacle for Albania’s EU accession negotiations.

“We want to resolve the problems that have been there for a long time and make past agreements concrete. We think that this process must end with a new friendship treaty between Macedonia, Greece and Albania, or to renew the ones of 1996 since there is goodwill from both sides”, Kotzias said.

“I hope that the slogan ‘history should not be our prison, but our school’ must come to life. We want to be a strong bridge between Albania and the EU. We don’t have problems so big that we cannot resolve”, Kotzias said.
