Racist attacks continue in Greece. After the extreme violence towards
emigrants in the Greek capital, another serious event has shocked the
Greek opinion.
Two Albanian emigrants have been brutally beaten in Rethymno, Crete. The
victims, the names of which are not public yet, have been urgently sent
at the city’s hospital after being brutally beaten by five Greek
citizens.

One of them is in serious conditions and has been kept at the hospital, while the other was able to be cured at home.

Local sources say that the event took place around 4 am.

Both Albanians were entering their car when they have been attacked for no reason by a group of five Greeks, shouting at them “You are foreigners and Greece belongs to the Greeks”. Afterwards, the aggressors have attacked the two Albanians with hard objects.

The motive that has driven this attack is xenophobia, because the attackers and the victims didn’t know each other previously.

The Police have started the investigations, but there are no suspects for the moment.

The situation of law and order in Greece has been very problematic recently.

Even worse is the situation at the Greek capital city, Athens, where the high level of criminality has increased citizen’s insecurity.

Regarding this event, the Greek Minister for Protection of the Citizen has put all police forces in alert and has required reinforcements for the suburbs. The Minister has also appealed the citizens to remain calm and not reach self-judgment, but to inform the police at any case.
