Foreign investors consider the new law of tax on profits as very dangerous for their business plans.

While everyone’s attention is focused on the local election results, the powerful foreign chambers of commerce, including the Association of Investors and Bank Association held a meeting in Tirana, the first of this kind, organized by the British Chamber of Commerce.

They discussed the new law proposed by the government for increasing the tax on profits with more than 30% of the turnover, from 10% that it currently is.

“With this new law, the government breaks all promises of the flat tax. The new tax regime damages Albania’s image and the trust of foreign investors. This is not right”, declared one of the foreign investors at the discussion table, where there was also the Association of Foreign Investors.

No representatives from the Ministry of Finances or Ministry of Economy were present in the meeting.

The newspaper “Shqip” learned that all Chambers of Commerce were categorically against this draft, which was brought for approval from the Business Consultative Council, but was withdrawn at the last minute for being brought again some days later.

This battle of nerves from the government brought dissatisfactions between foreign businesses, who demand the continuation of the previous law.
