Flooded immigrants in Greece seek help from Albania, feeling discriminated and abandoned by Greece

Just a few minutes were enough to take everything away from many families in Mandra, Athens.

19 people have died so far, including Petro Koleci, an Albanian from Saranda.

More than 2000 families are being faced with very difficult conditions, with almost no help from the state.

30 of those families are Albanian immigrants, who, besides having lost everything and having risked their lives, they also face discrimination from local authorities. For this reason, they ask Albanian authorities to help.

“We want help from our state because no one cares about us here. They are racists. They haven’t given us even shoes to put on our feet”, says Violeta Bono, one of the victims.

Perparim Hasaj also lost everything he had. Thankfully, his neighbor helped him escape death. He also appeals the Albanian government for help, because no one wants to help them there.

“Only Albanians have stood by us”, he says, however hopeful that they will make it even with this difficulty.
