The EU mediator for the Prishtina-Belgrade dialogue, Robert Cooper, will
visit Kosovo and Serbia in the first days of the next week.

EU high representative, Catherine Ashton announced Cooper’s visit after the meeting of the EU Commission for Politics and Security, where it was discussed about the situation in Kosovo.

Ashton declared once again that dialogue is the only way for making Belgrade and Prishtina resolve the suspended issues.

“EU expects to see a fast and necessary progress”, Ashton declared, asking both parties to avoid further deterioration of the situation.

EU repeats the appeal for calm

The European Union repeated the appeals for calm towards Serbia and Kosovo, in order to maintain calm after the violent acts in the “joint border”.

“Both countries know very well what constitutes a danger for them”, says the declaration of the EU Foreign Policy, Catherine Ashton.

The border checkpoint no.1 and 31 are under the control of KFOR, which has declared this area a “Military Restricted Zone”.

Ashton declared yesterday that Belgrade and Pristina have the responsibility to ease the tensions and establish order and security for everyone.

Germany and Great Britain joined the list of the countries who expressed their concerns about the situation in Kosovo. The respective Foreign Minister underlined that neighborly relations are vital for the EU perspective.

Ashton: Violence cannot be tolerated

The head of the EU foreign policy, Catherine Ashton, condemned the violence in Northern Kosovo by saying that Belgrade and Pristina have the responsibility to ease the tensions and establish order and security for everyone.

“I strongly condemn the violence in Northern Kosovo. The latest developments are unacceptable”, says the declaration of Ashton, according to Radio Free Europe. Ashton added that violence cannot be tolerated and that unilateral actions are not the best way to progress.
