The EU and the EBRD will start a 100-million-EUR investment program in Albania’s tourist areas.

The Vice President of the EBRD declared in Tirana that this fund will assist smaller tourist businesses.

“We are preparing with the EU government an innovative program which will combine EBRD and EU money. It will be a huge program, with 100 million EUR, to build local roads and aqueducts in tourist areas. The program foresees funds for smaller tourist businesses. It will also fund protection and restoration of the cultural and natural heritage”, said Alain Pilloux, Vice President of the EBRD.

This is a mixed funding program, with half of the money issued as soft loans to the government, and the rest as grants.

The Minister of Finances, Arben Ahmetaj, said that the government will reduce taxes for agro-tourism businesses as well.

Last year the Albanian economy profited 1.7 billion EUR coming from foreign travellers, while the tourist agencies expect tourism income to grow again this year.
