Electoral College rejects SP request

The Electoral College rejected the request of the Socialist Party for
declaring as invalid the decisions that CEC took on May 18th and 23rd.

In the session that ended some minutes ago, the rapporteur of this case announced the decision in favor of the Central Election Commission for counting miscast ballots.

After the decision, legal representatives of both parties left without giving any comment.

It took three hours to the Electoral College for administering the proofs of the Socialist Party and those of the Central Election Commission, regarding the summary tables of Zonal Election Commissions.

Socialist Party lawyers claimed that CEC decisions are normative acts, and as such they can be approved with at least 5 votes out of 7, and not with only the 4 votes of the Democratic Party commissioners who own CEC majority.

But the rapporteur Tom Ndreca rejected this argument, leaving CEC decision as valid.

However, the legal battle for the Tirana Municipality is not over yet.
