Electoral College rejects SP appeal

The Socialists came full of hopes today at the Electoral College, since
this judge panel accepted the administration of their manipulation
evidence one day before.

Besides returning the invalidation request to CEC, the Socialists asked the Electoral College to review the same case.

This way, there were three options left for the Electoral College: to return the case to CEC; to declare the invalidation of the elections and repeat the election process; to reject the request.

Judge Sashenka Jonuzi read the last decision that the Socialists wanted to hear.

“Based on article 153.3 of the Election Code, the Electoral College rejects SP request as unfounded and as filed after the legal deadline”, Jonuzi declared.

At 13:30, the Electoral College rejected also the appeal of the Pensioners Party. From this moment, Lulzim Basha will receive the certification of his mandate as Mayor of Tirana within 30 days, from the Tirana Court of First Degree. Article 40 of the law for the organization of the local administration states that the mandate is certified in the first meeting of the Municipal Council, where the new Mayor takes his oath. The mandate starts right after this oath.

If Municipal or Communal Councils do not meet within 30 days from the date when Central Election Commission announces the result, it is the Prefect who organizes the oath ceremony in the premises of the Municipality, in front of the residents of the respective units. The CEC meeting that distributes the mandates of Tirana Municipal Council is expected to be held this Monday.
