Elbasan farmers showing interest for olive

The project of planting olive trees in Elbasan has given good results
with the farmers. Their requests for taking subventions by the
government are higher than in other areas. Only during 2011, 2185
farmers have applied for the help of the Ministry of Agriculture.
According to the responsible authority in the Advisory Sector in the
Regional Agriculture Directory in Elbasan, Neshat Sadiku, this area has
cultivated fruit trees to a measure of 95%.
“This has made the farmers to plant less vegetable and pay more attention to fruit trees. There are many modern parcels that give satisfactory production, which has as destination the domestic and foreign market. Most of the farmers are asking subventions for olive trees. In Elbasan have applied 2185 farmers, and 1489 have asked subventions for olive grooves”, declares Sadiku for Shqip newspaper.
According to him, the farmer should fulfill some criteria for benefiting the financial support, such as the surface of the parcel, the type of the product etc.
