EC President appeals EU leaders: Open EU accession negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia

The President-elect of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, asked the EU leaders to start talks for accepting Albania and Northern Macedonia.

She said that Russia or China could fill the gap if the EU is not present in the region.

In a speech commemorating the fall of the Berlin Wall, Von der Leyen said that Europe has made more requests from Albania and Northern Macedonia, and they have delivered.

The French President, Emanuel Macron, was the only EU leader that blocked the accession negotiations.
