One day after voting the Police Vetting, in which the Socialist Movement for Integration joined its votes with the Socialist Party, the Deputy Minister of Interior, Juljan Hodaj, said that the propositions of the SMI don’t affect the core of the law, and that they are just technical.

The Deputy Minister says that the entire process will be concluded within 24 months.

“The process should be complete within 24 months for all police employees, not just its leaders. The process is structured in three phases, depending on the grades. There are 300 members in the higher grades, 3000 for the middle grades, and 9000 on the lower grade”, he said.

The President will have to decree the amends within 20 days, and then the law will enter in effect within 15 other days.

There are three applications the candidates will have to sign, regarding their assets, image and professionalism. Within these 20 days, the members will establish the External Vetting Commission and the Technical Secretariat.

Officers who don’t want to be vetted will have to resign within 30 days after the law enters in effect.
