The architectural project of the Danish “Studio Big” won the right to
construct the new mosque of Tirana, together with the Museum of
Religious Harmony.

The seven member jury, four of which were international architects and members of the Albanian Islamic Community, chose the project of this studio, which, according to them fulfilled a combination of modernity with the past.

“Studio Big” is a relatively new studio, established in 2006 by architect Bjarke Ingels, but they have a rich portfolio of projects all around the world in residential constructions, museums, libraries and sport centers.
Edi Rama, head of the jury, explained the specifics of this project:

“We saw as a very attractive feature the construction of “The Garden of Quran”, a garden around the mosque that will have all the trees mentioned in the Quran. We believe that this is a great value of the proposition”.

Quoting two orders of the prophet Mohammed, the Prime Minister Sali Berisha said that Edi Rama is trying to build the mosque in one piece of land that he will steal from their owners. Asked by Top-Channel about this comment, opposition leader, Edi Rama, replied also with a quotation of the prophet Mohammed:“The prophet Mohammed has said that who lies is not part of us”, Rama said.

The selection of the architectural project brings the construction of the new mosque one step closer. The next phase is the consultation with the Muslim devotees before the works inauguration.
