Court reopens case for the murder of Azem Hajdari, Sali Berisha called to testify

One year after the extradition from Turkey, Izet Haxhia, the former bodyguard of Albania’s former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, won his first battle with the Albanian justice, asking for a retrial after being sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of Azem Hajdari, a former prominent figure of the Democratic Party.

The Court of Serious Crimes has accepted Haxhia’s request for opening the Hajdari case.

The three judges of the Serious Crimes, Dhimiter Lara, Nure Ndreni and Sokol Binaj decided to reopen the trial for Haxhia with another judge panel at the Court of First Instance.

Bashkim Nikolla, the lawyer of IzetaHaxhia, said that his client has own the right to be heard. “We have evidence materials. We have tabulates and witnesses. We will prove that he is not guilty”, the lawyer declared.

One of the witnesses that will be called to testify is Sali Berisha, former Prime Minister and former leader of the Democratic Party.
