Every Albanian citizen who imports vehicles from abroad pays 20% of the vehicle price in customs, as VAT.

The tax is based on the reference price that customs use. More than 30,000 vehicles are imported each year in Albania, but some of them are excluded from this tax, such as the disabled, veterans and vehicles used by NGO’s or syndicates.

But MPs also have this privilege. The law of 1999, for the status of MPs, excludes them from these customs fees.

Shqiptarja.com has published a list with MPs and former MPs who have used this privilege to import vehicles from 10,000 EUR to100,000 EUR.

The vehicles are bought mainly from Germany, Italy and Great Britain.

The MP of the Democratic Party, Astrit Veliaj, has imported a 111,000 EUR vehicle from Great Britain.

Halim Kosova has brought two Mercedes Benzes from Kosovo, almost 100,000 EUR. Nard Ndoka has imported a vehicle from Germany, bought for 85,060.

Socialist MP Sadri Abazi has not paid customs for a Benz, AMG GT, bought in Germany for 105,000 EUR. Paulin Sterkaj bought a VW Tuareg for 50,000 EUR. PJIU MP Omer Mano has imported a Range Rover for 102,000 EUR.

Flamur Noka didn’t pay customs as well for a BMW 7series, 40,000 EUR; and Anastas Angjeli for an Audi A8, 87,000 EUR. Edi Paloka, Erion Brace, Bashkim Fino, Genc Pollo, etc, have all imported vehicles without paying customs.
