CEC reviews SP request for the elections

28/06/2011 12:00

Central Election Commission will discuss today at 18:00 the appeal request filed by the Socialist Party.

The essence of this request is based on the inconsistencies between the number of ballots with the number of total voters, during the counting process that was held by CEC. There are 284 voting centers for which the Socialist Party is asking invalidity of the election process and revote.

The Socialist Party, based on this argument, asked the nullification of decision no.11 58, dated June 25th, which announces as winner the candidate Lulzim Basha with 93 ballots more than Mayor Edi Rama. CEC decided that the request of the Socialist Party will be reviewed this afternoon.

The Socialists presented earlier a 9 page long document which argues that during the election process for the Mayor of Tirana, there have been allowed flagrant law violations that damaged the electoral process at the point of affecting the winner of the mayoral race.

Damaged boxes, missing ballots in some centers and finding more ballots than the number of voters are the main arguments presented by the Socialist Party.

If CEC will not give a positive answer to the Socialist, there will be another appeal, this time at the Electoral College, which is the final judge for the electoral problems.
