Berisha ignores SP demands

Just returned from the USA, the Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha,
did not hold a clear position about the 10 requests offered by the
Opposition in exchange of a cooperation with the majority for receiving
the EU candidate status.

In the Democratic Parliamentary Group meeting, where he held a long speech about his meetings in New York, Prime Minister Berisha gave a brief comment on two of the opposition’s requests: the electoral reform and the Parliament Regulation.

“I am convinced that there will be progress in the electoral reform. The majority has always been open to cooperate with the opposition and implement the OSCE-ODIHR recommendations. As regards the Parliamentary Regulation, I guarantee every Albanian that although the regulation of this parliament has the highest democratic standards, we are open to compare every article of that with the Regulation of the European Parliament and the regulations of every other democratic country. I hope that the opposition will want to follow the same standards”, Berisha declared.

Since the Prime Minister mentioned only these two requests, and not the others, it might insinuate that Rama’s requests might not be accepted by the majority.

Berisha blames opposition

The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, blamed the opposition for Albania’s stalemate in the EU integration process.

During an interview for Voice of America, Berisha declared from New York that the stalemate came as result of the opposition’s blocking policies.

“Brussels has done its duty. The blocking is in Tirana. If we have waited until the last day for not voting the laws and the reforms, this has had only one goal, that of blocking the process”, Berisha declared.

According to him, the work for the electoral reform doesn’t belong to Brussels, but to Tirana.

“This belongs to those who have chosen to block a process that requires a qualified majority. The opposition is known for its blockings, they did this with the visa too, but didn’t achieve their goal, because the visas didn’t require a qualified majority”, Berisha added.

However, the Prime Minister expressed his optimism for starting a new chapter for implementing the reforms, especially the electoral ones, in full accordance with the international recommendations.
