The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, is in Washington where he attended a conference organized by the Hudson Institute, regarding Trans-Atlantic relations.

In an interview for the Voice of America, Basha said that the Vetting of Judges and Prosecutors is progressing very slowly because the Socialist Party has rejected the request of the Vetting Institutions and opposition for granting them enough budget and human resources to work faster.

“The Socialist Party didn’t vote the budget, and the Vetting institutions are now unable to form the High Prosecution and Judiciary Councils. Postponing them is against the Constitution. Rather than fixing the mistake and accept the propositions of the opposition, Rama is proposing to create institutions outside the reform structure, which can appoint judges and prosecutors who aren’t vetted. He did this with the Prosecutor General, who was appointed against the Constitution”, Basha declared.

The DP leader added that this situation can be overcome only by bringing back the constitutional consensus and the Constitution, which passed with all 140 votes.

“No criminal gang has been destroyed so far. No criminal leader was brought to justice. No politicians tied with crime are brought to justice. The results of the judiciary reform are still zero”, Basha underlined.
