US ambassador in Tirana, Alexander Arvizu, EU ambassador Ettore Sequi
and OSCE ambassador Eugen Wollfarth met the Socialist party leader
this Friday afternoon, discussing on the latest political developments in
Albania.

The US ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, referred to the declaration of the US Deputy-Secretary of State, Philip Gordon, emphasizing that US stance has not changed. He declared two days ago that result for Tirana Municipality must be announced as soon as possible.

“I have worked at the White House, and the best thing about Friday is that it is only two days away from Monday. I want to refer to the declaration of Philip Gordin, US Deputy-Secretary of State. I think that it is very clear. Our stance remains unchanged. We spoke on the significance of working within a legal structure. We also said that people must remain as calm as possible. These two things reinforce each other, people remaining calm and working within a legal frame”, the ambassador declared.

US Deputy-Secretary of State, Philip Gordon, asked Albanian politicians to stop hard rhetoric, and the Central Election Commission must be as transparent as possible, according the law.

Gordon said that USA has followed the situation in Albania since May 8th elections. According to him, violence and rhetoric that threatens for violence or insinuates violent acts is not appropriate and threatens Albania’s future.

Gordon emphasized the importance that CEC has elections for functioning in a consistent and transparent way and fully respecting the law, in order to create trust through the people and guarantee integrity for this institution’s mandate.

“Albanian politicians must focus on constructive exchanges, through actions that serve to a future towards EU, and not through harsh rhetoric or negative actions that only degrade the process”, adds the US Deputy-Secretary of State.

Gordon declared that the Albanian people deserve a stable and progressive democracy, based on universal values and rule of law.
