Arvizu: calmness should be preserved

Arvizu referred to recent incidents with a political background.

Reminding that for these elections it is not important who wins, but the way how he will win, Arvizu asked the Election Central Commission to exert their duty and the parties to respect the rules.

“I am concerned for the violent and not violent incidents that have happened regarding the elections. My appeal to the political parties is to remain calm, whether they are in the electoral commissions, in the Socialist Party, in the Democratic Party or in other smaller parties. We certainly understand that politics is for victory, but most important for Albania is not only who will win, but also how he will win, how smoothly will this process go. My desire is that all candidates will not think more for the victory and less for the people who are electing them. I have heard some people saying that these are political elections, and others saying that these are administrative elections. I personally do not understand the difference. What really matters is that these elections and this election process will not create distress, regret and desperation to these people. These elections should give people hope for the future of this country. People often ask me to whom is my message addressed to. It surely goes to everyone that I mentioned in what I said. The government should do everything on their power, so that these elections might be transparent and equal. The Election Central Commission should do his job; the Socialist and the Democratic parties should implement those rules and think about the voters, not only how to win. Even the way how you lose sometimes gives a good message to the people”, Arvizu said.

The US ambassador made these declarations during a meeting with Elbasan local executives. Mayor Qazim Sejdini showed to the ambassador the projects that the municipality has realized with the help of USAID.
