Session with Imami fails
The Minister of Defense, Arben Imami, was not present in the hearing
session of this Monday, after a repeated request of the opposition MPs.
The Security Commissioner members were notified through SMS that the meeting was being postponed to Wednesday morning, since the Minister had another agenda of his activity.
When the conflict between the members of the Security Commission and one of the most important Ministers has reached its heating point, after the Ministry didn’t allow the commission members to hold an inspection at the Ministry, the hearing session that was offered by the Minister himself was postponed once again.
The conflict broke up after the media reported corruptive affairs of the Ministry through illegal arms trade, which was followed by the opposition MPs accusing the Minister in Parliament, who compared their inspection request to the inspections that used to be done in the communist era.
The Minister’s clarification for the accusations that were made to him is expected this Wednesday, but the media is still continuing with the accusations.
The daily “Shqip” newspaper published even harder facts, saying that the ammunition were sold to countries where there are conflicts and have brought no revenues to the Albanian budget, based on the Customs data.
Shqip sources say that the Albanian state has sold around 10 million USD of arms. This is the concern that has been raised by the opposition, adding to the fact that the arms dealing companies involve relatives of the Ministry of Defense leaders.
The opposition leader accused the Ministry also of spying on the opposition. He also threatened that all illegal spies will respond for their acts.
