Blacksmiths who work with iron tools have disappeared everywhere, due to industrial developments, however, one smith still works in Elbasan.
His name is Shahin Kurti, and farmers prefer to buy and simple farming tools from him, like pickaxes, spades, etc. They say the quality of his tools cannot be compared to the ones sold in retail stores.
Shahin Kurti says he learned his profession when he was a young boy, from his father. It is hard, but he feels very happy and calm with it, and he hopes his sons will follow.
After 40 years as a blacksmith, Shahini says it is said that old professions are disappearing due to lack of interest from younger generations.
