Albania in the eyes of a Spanish journalist

Rosa Montero, a renowned Spanish journalist with the “El Pais” newspaper, who has interviewed international figures such as Yaser Arafat, Indira Gandhi and Richard Nixon, has arrived to Tirana for a colloquial with students of the Foreign Language University in Tirana, invited by the Spanish Embassy.

“It is my first time here and I am happy that I could come. Albania is unknown to Spain. All I knew about the country was what I had read from a book of Ismail Kadare, who is one of my favorite authors. I couldn’t imagine how Albania would be, because Albania is very enigmatic for Spain. But it’s more modern that I had imagined”, says Rosa Montero.

When asked about the many interviews she has conducted, which one was more memorable for her, Montero says that from the personal point of view, she has liked the one with Paul McCartney.

“When I was a young girl I was in love with him. When I interviewed him he was very old, but very alive inside who really impressed me”, Rosa says.

Montero has her rules for a good interview: “Usually I conduct long interviews. If you really want to make a good interview, you need to be very curious to know the other, to dig beyond the superficial shell of the person you have in front of you. Most importantly, never make questions you are not curious about”, she says.
