In the last two years, the number of patients that have been
hospitalized at the Psychiatric Hospital “Sadik Dinçi” in Elbasan has
increased with alarming figures.

From 200 patients, the hospital today has 600 people who need medical treatment. According to the director of this Hospital, Kamber Balla, the main causes are social problems, emigration and the usage of light and heavy drugs.

Balla explains that the majority of the patients are young or middle aged males.

The problems of Elbasan Psychiatric Hospital, the biggest of this kind in Albania, do not end here. The hospital is working beyond its capacities. Concerning remains the fact that family members do not take proper care of the patients when they are released from the hospital. This makes them return in more serious conditions.
