“One nation, one passport”

After the civil initiative for opposing the population registration on
ethnic and religious bases, the Red and Black Alliance will start the
political action “One nation, one passport”.

The head of the Red and Black Alliance, Kreshnik Spahiu, declared in a forum that Albania is the only country in the region and in the world that has not equipped its citizens with passports.

According to Spahiu, this is a standard that has been applied by all countries of the region and even wider.

“All is needed is a positive consensus in Parliament, with a qualified majority of 84 votes for changing the law of the Albanian citizenship. The three-year residence obligation must be removed for any citizen of Albanian nationality”, Spahiu declared.

The head of Red and Black Alliance has repeated their stance that the auto-declaration of religion and ethnicity aims to artificially increase the number of ethnic minorities and to reduce the number of Albanians.

“It is very necessary for this process to not be abrupt, but a regular legislative process that respects the parliamentary procedures for reviewing the draft-law. Firstly with a popular initiative; secondly, it must be presented by the government, and thirdly, through the hearing sessions where all parties will be heard”, Spahiu declared.

In the last session for this season, the Albanian Parliament approved the draft-decision for population registration on ethnic and religious basis, without taking in consideration the petition that was handled by the Red and Black Alliance and that was signed by thousands of citizens.
