“Dritan Hoxha” Foundation

“We started this competition one month ago, with the desire of promoting new reporters and encouraging them to be Albania’s future journalists and media leaders. Despite the short notice, it was a positive surprise for us receiving a great number of creations from different journalism genres, by dozens of young people from all over Albania”, said Vjollca Dako, director of “Dritan Hoxha” media foundation.

Winner of first annual “Dritan Hoxha” competition is Ulkie Sinani, 21 years old from Bulqiza. Her article will be published on the daily newspaper “Shqip”. She has written a report about her town and the mines which have killed several miners and caused poverty.

“I feel very emotional, because I didn’t expect it. It is a great honor. I participated in this competition for testing myself on writing”, said the winner Sinani.

Dozens of young people participated in this competition, one of which is Aurora Koromani, who submitted two articles; one on blood feuds and one on head cancer.

Dritan Hoxha is commemorated today as the media genius who knew to put his vision beyond the horizon. He created Top Media, the screen of all Albanians in Kosovo, Albania and Macedonia.

“We commemorate today the third anniversary of the loss of Tani. We remind his work and figure, the man that was called by everyone “the genius of Albanian media”. The media created by Tani contributed in the unification of all Albanians and promoted national values. In the name of Top Media and the foundation, we thank the head of the Prishtina Municipality, Mr. Isa Mustafa, who named after him a street in the center of Kosovo’s capital”, Dako declared.

Dritan Hoxha created and worked with passion for putting Top Media on a track, aiming to explore new dreams and projects whose heart was at the young people.

“The founder of this Media Group, Dritan Hoxha, had an incredible trust on the young people. Maybe his success was due to the energy and trust he had on them. Today there are many rewards for the work of a journalist, but not for new starters. Encouraging youth means continuing a tradition started on the very first day of his work”, said Lutfi Dervishi, Albanian media analyst.

“Top Albania, Top Channel and Top Media were created by a group of young people full of ideas that were advanced for their time, and have resisted in all these years. I think that returning to the young people, the ones who have the same passions, is a return at the origin. This enables young people unfold their talent. We have many talented people today who haven’t had any opportunity to show their abilities. This is an initiation that opens a window for them”, declared Iris Luarasi, journalism professor.

The first ceremony of the annual competition initiated by Media Foundation “Dritan Hoxha” was attended by many close relatives, friends, journalists and press analysts.
