Institute of Statistics published strong economic growth figures for the last trimester of 2010.

“During the fourth trimester of 2010, Albanian economy was 5.4% higher than the last trimester of 2009”, declared Ledion Shahini, accounting INSTAT specialist.

Being the last trimester, INSTAT also published the annual economic growth for 2010.

“At the same time, we made preliminary annual estimations for 2010, which has an economic growth of 3.9% higher than 2009”, Shahini specified.

INSTAT declared that the leading factors for this year’s economic growth have been trade recovery and agricultural production. But the top leading sector remains industry, helped by the heavy rains that poured all over the country, leaving as a side effect the floods in northwest Albania.

“Industry saw an economic growth of 24.4% compared to the last trimester of 2009. The leading sectors have been energy, trade and agriculture”, Shahini added.

Albanian government had officially predicted an economic growth of 4.1% with their annual budget, and on some occasions, the Minister of Finance had mentioned even higher figures.

The 3.9 percent economic growth, although higher than 2009, remains below the Albanian historical average of 6%.
