142 million Euros left the country, Bank of Albania report finds

As much as 142 million euros, whose origins are unspecified for various reasons, have flown out of Albania in the first quarter of this year, a Bank of Albania report has found.

In the publication of the balance of payments by the Bank of Albania, in the “errors and omissions” sheet, the money for which the Bank faces problems to identify, has been in the amount of EUR 142 million in outflows, or 5% of GDP.

Balance sheet discrepancies for the previous quarter, October-December 2017, were about 50 million euros, but this time the cash flow was in the opposite direction, entering from abroad into the Albanian economy, or being produced from the informal economy.

Meanwhile, for the first quarter, the trade deficit, the ratio of exports to imports was EUR 354 million, 43 million more than the same period a year earlier.

Albania’s total cash flow entering and leaving the country, recorded a deficit of 164.6 million Euros in the first quarter of 2018, expanding by about 11% on a yearly base.
