In a press release, Angela Merkel has spoken about the “No” that Europe has given to the EU accession negotiations for Albania and Northern Macedonia.
Merkel said that she supported the French president about one point, but she added that this wasn’t an accession, but the opening of the accession negotiations.
“Macron is right that the enlargement process needs to be reformed. We have agreed on some things that need to be done, but we want to open the EU accession negotiations for Albania and Northern Macedonia. Changing the name was huge progress. Albania has also made a lot of progress, but not enough to take a unanimous decision”, Merkel said.
